process
For this lamp, I was inspired by the way that light leaks out of a slightly ajar door.
I did some sketching to arrive at a form with the light bulb tucked away from the aperture of the lamp.
From there I quickly modeled and printed a frame that used the paper track technique I developed in my last lamp. However, I realized immediately that it was not structurally sound.
Nevertheless, this prototype was useful at proving out the concept when held together with some tape.
Next, I went to half scale to make some structurally improvements. I added vertical beams and large paper retention clips at the rear of the lamp.
Scaling back up was mostly successful, but because you can only have one vertical beam installed while sliding in the paper, I had to make clips to hold the frame in place. After the paper is fully seated these can be removed.
